When was the last time you visited your local library?
If you haven’t been there in a while, you may be surprised to discover all the amazing resources available and events that your library has to offer, ALL FOR FREE.
From the physical books and magazines, to online databases and community resources and events, there’s something for everyone at the library.
One of the most obvious resources at the library is the collection of books.
Whether you prefer fiction or non-fiction, there are thousands of books to choose from.
You can also find audiobooks and e-books for free, which is great if you’re on a budget.
But the library has SO much more to offer beyond books.
Many libraries offer online databases (Libby or Kanopy) that you can access with your library card. These databases may include everything from ways to stream your favorite movies and shows, audiobooks, as well as research materials, academic journals, and historical archives. If you’re a student, these resources can be incredibly helpful for your coursework. But even if you’re not a student, you may find these databases interesting and informative.
Another great thing about the library is the events and programs that they offer.
From book clubs and writing workshops to craft classes and cooking demonstrations, there’s always something going on at the library for someone of ANY age! You can bring the kids to storytime, attend a lecture on local history, or join a knitting group. These events are, more often than not, free and open to the public, so you can meet new people and learn new skills without breaking the bank.
Lastly, did you know that some libraries offer a ‘Library of Things’ to rent using your library card? Mine has everything from a laminator, to a sewing machine, to a projector, to a lawn mower and everything in between!! Check and see if + what your library offers today!
But the library isn’t just a place to check out books + things and attend events. It’s also a community gathering place. The library is a place where people from all walks of life can come together and share their interests and passions.
In short, the library is a treasure trove of resources and opportunities. If you haven’t been there in a while, I encourage you to pay a visit. You may just fall in love with all the amazing things that your library has to offer.
